Since my version of the high school reunion (aka the Skateboard Hall of Fame Awards) is coming up next month I was feeling nostalgic this week. But then I realized, what's old is new again. Skateboards, tie-dye, neon, backpacks, cutoffs, and Vans. It's all back. Including all of us OG skaters, together again for one night on May 10. That's radness.

Growing up I was the "different one". I wore "weird" shit like skateboard tee's. I surfed and tried out BMX. Funny how "mainstream" it all has become. Sometimes being different isn't too bad.

Be different. Be weird. 

Because before you know it "everyone" will be doing it.

Shredder Girls

Off to The Vans Warped Tour to spend the day hanging out with my girls, Laura Thornhill and Edie Robertson. We were all pro skaters "back in the day" and were invited to judge the Masters Skate Contest today by the super cool Patty Segovia-Kraus who owns and runs the All Girl Skate Jam. Patty has done much for women's skateboarding it's insane.

The funny thing about all this is that Laura and Edie came up through the ranks right before me and we never met. I admired them in magazines, and even emulated them to some extent. I remember buying red Vans sneakers to be just like Laura when I first started skating and later I ended up being sponsored by Sims Skateboards just like Edie was. Our paths were so close, yet never crossed.

Well thank goodness for Facebook and skateboard reunions! I ended up meeting both of these rad girls in the past few years and its like we have known each other forever.

Its going to be a BFF kinda day and totally rad - I can't wait!
