Girls of Summer

Edie Robertson tearing up a backyard pool

Laura Thornhill spinning her iconic 360's

Ellen Berryman ever so graceful at high speeds

Judi Oyama throwing down a bad ass frontside grind.

Patti McGee doing her signature handstand on the cover of LIFE Magazine

Robin Logan shredding while on tour in London
Ellen O'Neal rocking a solid nose wheelie

Peggy Oki - the original Dogtown girl carving some pavement

Tonight is the annual Skateboard Hall of Fame awards. It's a big night for all of us skater girls (and guys) where we come out to honor our peers, see longtime friends and have a blast together. Last year we partied long into the night when our own Patti McGee was the very first female skater to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and tonight we will do the same for this years female inductee, Peggy Oki. Congrats to both of you!!

The girls above are just a few of my rad friends who made skateboarding what it is for girls today. They skated way before it was "cool/trendy", ripped as hard as the boys, and looked graceful doing it.

Tonight (and always) I honor each and every one of you girls!

xx

Over The Edge

Phlox's python skateboard

This is how you know skateboarding has become a huge "trend". And it's not good.
When people make a python skateboard for $1,700 it's just insanity.

Reckless Sunday

A "It's Not About Pretty" Production
Skating & styling - Cindy Whitehead
Film By - Ian Logan

Sometimes I get bored when I have a day off and come up with weird shit I want to do. Luckily Ian will pretty much
go along with anything and agreed to find some great locations & film me for this video that involves Fashion x Skate.
 It's called RECKLESS SUNDAY.

And yeah, that's the Thomas Wylde skull caftan & The Row black leather leggings I am wearing to skate in -
like I always say - street + fashion + sport is all one in my book.

Let me know what you think.

Projecting The Future

Boardriders. Venice, CA

New Quiksilver store. Stopped in to check it out the other day. Pretty impressive. Groms skating the mini ramps in the back of the shop, awesome colors, tons of women's surf wear, art gallery in back, rad books. Pretty much the new face of surf/skate shops. Can't wait to see the events they put on this summer, would be  a great place to hang at night with some good friends & wine after a day spent surfing or skating...

Girls Kicking Ass

Yeah, it sucks to be you doesn't it?
I am sure that's what 11 yr old Poppy Starr Olsen is thinking as she gets huge airs like the one here.
The girl kicks ass. Yours specifically.

Dare To Be Different

photos via coveteur, harpers bazaar, pinterest, oracle fox

Growing up I was the "different one". I wore "weird" shit like skateboard tee's. I surfed and tried out BMX. Funny how "mainstream" it all has become. Sometimes being different isn't too bad.

Be different. Be weird.
Because before you know it "everyone" will be doing it.

Humbled

"Cindy is one of the pioneer women & rad skateboarder. At 15 years old she was featured as the FIRST FEMALE CENTERFOLD in a Skate Magazine" SK

"She is an idol for women skateboarders. She has paved the way for all of the upcoming females in a male dominated sport."  SK

"30 years ago she was better skateboarder than most guys all over the world. In late 70's a maneuver that sounds "easy" today, like simple grinding on the lip, was the edge, and just really good skaters were able to do."  SK

"Cindy Whitehead, it's a great honor to have you in our Gallery of Legends. We also want to congratulate you for your killer job in the fashion market. Last, but not least, we are a community based in Brazil and now you are a legend to Brazilian Skateboard Guys & Girls Too. Thank you for all your contributions to the history of skateboarding" www.facebook.com/skatersbr

**So frigging honored that SK featured me in their Legends of Skateboarding series. No words to even tell you how that feels...
